This week Gerrit covers amongst other things how he handled some of the online marketing strategy for Wavebutler.
Online Marketing Strategy
After it took me really long to get the website to a point where I could say „I am more or less happy with the result“, I focused mainly on online marketing. As soon as I had a domain available, I started blogging regularly. That means that I uploaded a new post once a week and mostly at the same day, so that Google’s algorism could detect some kind of continuity. It took about 6-8 weeks until we were found in the first spot on page 1 of the Google search if you searched for „Wavebutler“.
In the next step, I took care of the social media, so that I could set according links from our website to the social media channels. By setting up Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram etc., you automatically set a backlink to your own website, which increases the quality of your website. But from there on it also meant that I would have to set more or less the same amount of new backlinks to our website every single week now. As you can imagine, this is still one of my online marketing strategy tasks.
Luckily, I don’t have to do everything all by myself, even though I assigned most of the online marketing strategy tasks to myself. However, Mücke is doing the on-page optimization for us. There is still a lot to do when it comes to on-page optimization.
Moreover, I am regularly „sharing“ in relevant forums etc. in order to get the name Wavebutler out there. Also, we have email marketing and many more things lined up.
Naturally, Google AdWords is part of our online marketing strategy. I did a thorough research before I started setting up ads for Facebook and Google AdWords. Actually, we booted out Facebook advertisement quite early for many reasons. It only caused us problems, costs a lot of money and doesn’t show that much of an effect. I don’t consider the Facebook advertisement as a good tool for our online marketing strategy and in fact it did more harm than good. Next week, I am going to upload a blogpost dedicated to explaining why Facebook advertisement doesn’t work for us. In order to be successful with our small Google AdWords budget, I researched a lot on how to write effective short Ads and found out about all the little psychological tricks out there. With this knowledge, I started designing countless different Ads and tried them out on a tiny budget. Also, I built several landing pages to see which ones work best for our online marketing strategy (using Google’s tracking).
That’s about everything for today, come back next week to find out why we won’t use Facebook advertisement in our online marketing strategy.
