Rinse a wetsuit according to its care label
Identify the suit and its care instructions before setting up a rinse routine, especially when different wetsuits share the same household.

Stop forcing the closure, identify the type of zip and describe where it catches before choosing any cleaning or repair product.

A stiff wetsuit zip is a reason to pause, not to pull harder. First remove the suit if necessary and examine the closure without putting it under tension. Note whether the problem occurs along the whole track or at one point, and whether fabric appears caught near the slider. Do not keep testing it until a small resistance becomes a damaged closure.
Find the suit's care instructions and any separate guidance for its zip. Different constructions may have different maintenance requirements. A lubricant sold for one kind of waterproof zip is not automatically suitable for every wetsuit closure, and household oils should not be substituted because they are nearby.
In good light, inspect the visible track, slider and surrounding fabric. Photograph a displaced part, damaged tooth or seam that appears to be pulling away. If sand or residue is present, follow the maker's cleaning directions rather than scraping the track with a sharp tool.
Keep the garment supported while handling it. Pulling the zip while the full wet weight hangs below can make it difficult to distinguish ordinary resistance from tension created by the way you are holding the suit. Never use the pull tab as a carrying handle.
If the maker specifies a product, check the exact application instructions, including where it should and should not go. Applying more than directed can create a different cleaning problem. If no suitable guidance is available, ask the manufacturer or a repairer before experimenting.
Record the model, approximate age and point where the closure catches. Explain whether the issue appeared suddenly after a session or developed gradually, without guessing the internal cause. Include a clear overall photo and a close view of the affected section.
Ask whether the suit should be brought in and whether any cleaning should be done first. Keep it out of use if the closure cannot function properly or its condition is uncertain. Once the issue is resolved, save the recommended maintenance instructions with the suit's record so the next response is based on the actual zip rather than another round of trial and error.
